Pay Your Dues

A Next Scare Collection

Some stories are meant to be told. Others demand to be heard.

Pay Your Dues book cover

Not all horror lives in the dark. Some of it sits across from you at a fire pit at 2am. Some of it wears your dead uncle's face in a liquor store. Some of it drives you to your destination.

In a worn notebook left behind by his grandmother, one man discovers a collection of stories gathered over a lifetime- each one stranger and darker than the last. Stories include:
The Deal: A man working a dead-end job makes a late-night deal with a strange figure who shouldn't exist.
Kinfolk: A family survives a national tragedy. As they journey on in hopes of starting over, the family realizes that past is harder to leave behind than expected.
Magnifico the Great: A librarian's event awakens something ancient… and hungry.
Cesar Steel Mill: A man is offered a chance to join an organization while working at a steel mill. A chance to be part of a fraternity- but at what cost?

These are the stories people told when they needed someone to listen.

Pay Your Dues is a debut horror anthology from Michael Alba Colbert and The Next Scare, rooted in folklore, family, and the quiet dread of choices that follow you. Thirteen stories. One notebook. And a price for every page.
